Type of paper

Watercolour, usually between 180 and 300gsm is thicker than the usual copy paper (80gsm). Check your printer settings to make sure your printed can take thick paper. You can find this setting usually under configuration for photo printing. 

Waterproof Ink: Inkjet or Laser?

Laser printers use toner and prints are usually waterproof. However, if you use paper with some texture (cold pressed watercolour paper) the toner powder might not stick to the paper. Please test before printing.

Inkjet printers can print on thicker paper, depending on the settings. However, the inkjet inks are often NOT waterproof. Please test to see if your inks are waterproof before painting your printable templates. 

No waterproof ink? No problem!

You can print the templates in regular copy paper and trace it onto watercolour paper. You can put your watercolour paper over the printed page and place it on a window to trace it. If you have a light table, this will be an easier task.

Tracing will save you time compared to drawing the templates yourself, calculating sizes and margins.

Use a waterproof marker -pigment based or alcohol based- to ensure your lines do not smudge when your paint. Some suggestions are: Sharpies, Copic Liners, Stardtler Lumocolor, Sakura Pigma Pigment Markers, Faber Castell PITT ink markers.
